Maribel is a dedicated change agent, digital media executive, veteran journalist, and Gannett’s first-ever chief transformation officer. In that role,
she brings together content, product, and strategy focused on premium journalism, innovations in digital storytelling, leading efforts in the use
of artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies, as well as maintaining a committed focus to perpetual experimentation.
Today, Maribel leads the USA Today Network’s news division, which includes 4,000 journalists in 250 local newsrooms and the flagship USA Today
where she also serves as publisher. Prior to taking this position in 2017, she served as Gannett’s senior vice president and chief transformation
officer, senior vice president/strategic initiatives, and digital news executive at the company’s corporate office.
Among her achievements, Maribel helped architect the company’s digital subscription strategy and created an Innovation Lab to foster intrapreneurship
and human-centered designed across the organisation.
Prior to her role at Gannett corporate, Maribel rose through the ranks of The News-Press in Fort Myers, Florida: reporter, features editor,
metro editor, and managing editor, among other roles. She started her career at the Rockford (Illinois) Register Star. The News-Press
and the Register Star are owned by Gannett.
Meanwhile, Maribel has served on the board for the News Media Alliance and on the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Having spoken at INMA conferences and hosted study tours over the past decade, Maribel joined the INMA Board of Directors in 2017 and was
elected First Vice President in 2019. She assumed the presidency of INMA on June 1, 2022. Her term concludes May 31, 2024.
